A New World Upon Me - Chapter 5

Chapter 5: Confronting The Devouring


----In The Mind Of Kam----


It is time, I have finally realised my purpose in this world called Whiterona. I have to be strong, yet I am still nervous. I do fear what wil happen if I don't save everyone, I too will be gone if I don't succeed with my task. I still have some questions to ask Skyron, like the newcomers thing, and others but it'll have to wait until I have dealt with the devouring, well that's if I live to see it through. It's time to meet up with The King, and let him know I am ready for this big challenge that is before me.

Kam and Skyron entered the throne room from the left sidedoor, and Skyron bowed in front of the King. Kam hadn't done that before when she met him the first time, so she did likewise this time.


The King: "Well well well, it is nice to see you again Kam, how are you feeling?"


Kam: "I'm alright, I'm a bit nervous about this still, I am very sorry for storming off before."


The King: "It is ok to be nervous, and it is no problem about storming off, you just needed time to adapt to this place. And I see you have become one of us now, that is a good sign, and the transformation has been completed, well done Skyron for the assistance."


Skyron: "Thank you your highness."


The King got up from his chair, and pointed towards the window on the right.


The King: "Kam, it is time, Skyron will come with you, you must venture out there to confront the devouring, time is running out, are you ready?"


Kam looked at the window from where she was standing, and then turned back to The King.


Kam: "Yes, I am ready."


The King: "Well then, please go young one, and good luck, we all here in Whiterona are counting on you!"


Skyron led Kam out of the castle, and towards the black hole, aka the devouring. As Kam and Skyron were walking, Kam wanted to ask Skyron something.....


Kam: "Um, Skyron, can I ask you something while we are heading towards this black hole?"


Skyron: "Yes go ahead, the walk will take a short while."


Kam: "Okay, well I remember you mentioned newcomers to me when I was in the resting area, what did you mean by that?"


Skyron: "The newcomers I speak of are more human beings from your world. We choose them, and they help us fight off any danger threatening our world."


Kam: "Wow really, what other dangers have threatened this world?"


Skyron: "Beasts, big giants, dinosaurs, even quicksand."


Kam: "Whaa, quicksand?!"


Skyron: "Yes quicksand, this quicksand was very much alive, and we were very fortunate to have a quick thinking human who learned very quickly to dealing with it."


Kam: "Ah, those sure are brave humans."


Skyron: "Indeed, and you are the next in line, do you want to join the elite brave human beings that save our world?"


Kam: "You bet I do, but I'm still nervous!"


Skyron: "Remember what you must do, never lose focus on that task, it is the only way."


Shortly, Skyron stopped walking, and then Kam stopped too.


Skyron: "We must stop here, we can not go any further due to the devouring's range."


Kam: "Ah ok I see, so this is it?"


Skyron: "Yes this is it, good luck Kam."


Skyron took a couple of steps back, leaving Kam on her own. Kam looked up, and saw the menacing black hole. It looked pretty big, the vortex was in motion, but it wasn't really doing too much until....................


Skyron: "OH NO, KAM, LOOK!"


The devouring suddenly expanded, the range increased, and it swept Kam off her feet, along with Skyron behind her. They both were hurtling towards the devouring's vortex.


Kam: "HOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!!


Skyron shouted at Kam.


Skyron: "KAM, NOW, YOU MUST CLOSE YOUR EYES, DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO, REMEMBER, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"


Kam: "ALRIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT, DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!"


Kam and Skyron were halfway towards the devouring's vortex, gaining more and more speed. Kam closed her eyes as tightly as she could.



-----------------------IN THE MIND OF KAM--------------------



I've gotta concentrate, god damn man, this certainly wasn't what I was expecting. This is so bloody serious now, I don't want to end up dead, and Skyron's in trouble too. Come on, focus...................focus..........................focus!!!!

I'm the key to saving them all.

I'm the next in line, the devouring must be sent away.

It's big, but I have big idea to counter it.

As Kam was hurtling towards the devouring, something in front of her began to take shape, it getting bigger and bigger and bigger. It soon became visible that it was a giant paint brush, with lots of white paint on the brush part of it. Kam knew she didn't have any time, she had to speed up the brush. The brush then went very quickly, and it then painted over the devouring with white paint before the black hole had the chance to suck it in to it's vortex.



The devouring was no more, in it's place was white space, but the danger wasn't over. Kam opened her eyes, she was falling, along with the big paint brush, and Skyron was falling a bit further away too.


Kam: "Ok, World saved, but god damn it now I need to focus again to save my butt, along with Skyron's too!"


Kam closed her eyes quickly again.


---------------In The Mind Of Kam---------------


I need to keep the focus up, god this is cutting it close. That giant paint is handy, but it needs a new purpose now! Focus...focus....

She was falling at speed, and the giant paint brush too. Suddenly the paint brush magically shrunk, and then big wings appeared on both sides of the handle, It started flapping, and it then flew down and caught Kam. She then opened her eyes.


Kam: "Goodness me, this is scary as hell!!!!!!!!!!!"


Kam looked to see where Skyron was, she was falling a bit further away. She had to get to her.


Kam: "Man, she's a bit futher away, but I've gotta reach her, not sure where the floor is, as it's just white space from up here!"


Kam urged the flying paint brush to gain speed, they and got closer and closer and closer to her until Kam could see her more clearly. Suddenly, she noticed a black shadow underneath Skyron getting bigger and bigger.


Kam: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, SHE'S GONNA HIT THE GROUND BEFORE I GET TO HER!!!!!!!!"

Kam closed her eyes again fast.


-------------IN THE MIND OF KAM-----------


Not gonna get there in time, TELEPORT WITH THE MIND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She and the flying paint brush teleported, and Skyron just about landed on the brush end of the paint brush, but as it tried to pull up it seemed to lose it's power, and it nose dived to the floor, and crashed. The paint brush broke apart, and then everything went silent.


Kam was laying on the floor, she tried to get up, and called out for Skyron.


Kam: "SKYRON, SKYRON, WHERE ARE YOU?"


No reply.


Kam: "SKYRON, PLEASE, WHERE ARE YOU, I CAUGHT YOU, SORRY I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AT THE END, THE PAINT BRUSH JUST STOPPED WORKING!"


No reply again.


Kam sank to her knees, she started to cry, she looked around, but couldn't see Skyron anywhere.  


Kam: "Did the paint brush lose power, I don't know......where is she, I just wish she knew that I tried my best to save her!"


Suddenly.................


Skyron: "You are very brave, and such a quick thinker."


Kam got up ass quickly as she could, and spun round.


Skyron was there, she looked like she had white brusises on her body though.


Kam: "SKYRON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"


Kam ran to Skyron, and hugged her tightly.


Skyron: "Oh my goodness, I can't breathe, and my injuries are hurting a bit."


Kam let go.


Kam: "Oh dang, sorry, I'm just glad you are alright!!!!!!!!"


Skyron: "I am ok, my injuries will heal in time...............that was very close."


Kam just looked at her and smiled.


Kam: "It sure was!!"


Skyron: "You have saved us all, you are a very brave human, you will always be remembered here, no matter what happens. That giant paint brush, that was the key to sending the devouring away, quick thinking prevailed, I see you teleported aswell to save me."


Kam: "Whaaa, how did you know I............oh yeah, you can read minds can't ya?"


Skyron nodded.


Kam: "Um...........can I ask something, it's about my appearance, is it?"


Skyron: "Permanent? No, would you like to change back?"


Kam: "Well yes please, but I guess I did get used to it, but I didn't really let it bother me once the task I had to take took over."


Skyron: "Very well, please close your eyes Kam."


Kam closed her eyes.


Skyron: "Just think with the mind, and ask for this request to revert back."


-------------IN THE MIND OF KAM--------------


I would like to revert back to my human form please, I have completed my task, and my destiny here in the world of Whiterona.

In a blink of an eye, she was back to her human form.



Skyron: "Open yours eyes Kam, it is done."


Kam opened her eyes, and smiled, but then she noticed a crowd of people coming towards them. There was cheering, and she saw The King with guards, and more of their kind.
They got to Kam, and lifted her up, and carried here around celebrating her victory against the devouring.


Kam: "Woha, easy guys, owwwwwww I may of pulled something in my body!!!!!!!!



------------Later On-------------------



Kam and Skyron were in the throne room in front of The King, they bowed to him together, and Kam then shook The King's had in respect.


The King: "You have done what every other human being has done for us, you have succeeded in the task that you were set. We thank you for the bravery, quick thinking, and last of all, the desire to withstand the pressure you were under when the tough get's tough.


Kam: "Thank you, King."


The King: "Please, please use your highness, it is highly appropriate here."


Kam: "Heh, thank you, your highness."


The King: "It is a pleasure to stand in the room with you, but now it is time for you to leave our world, once the task was complete, you must return. I get emotional every single time it is time to say goodbye to a human."


Kam looked a bit sad, and held out her arms.


The King: "Oh..........a hug, you want to hug me?"


Kam: "Sure, yes I do, please."


Kam and The King hugged.


The King: "We wish you all the best back in your world, stay safe, and never forgets us, we won't forget you."


Kam: "Thank you, I will never forget, I promise you that. "


Kam and The King ended their hug, and Skyron led Kam out of the castle. Once Kam and Skyron walked outside of the gate area, Kam wanted to ask Skyron another question....


Kam: "So, um Skyron, this is it?"


Skyron: "Yes, this is it, but first we must return to where I found you."


Kam: "Huh, but wait, it's all white space out there, don't tell me you have my exact original location pin pointed to where you found me."


Skyron: "As a matter of fact I do, I know where you started here."


Kam: "Holy crap, that's pretty cool, you really are amazing aren't you, simply AMAZING."


Skyron: "Thank you, we must go now."


Kam and Skyron headed off through the whiteness, until there they just dots in the distance, and then they vanished in an blink of an eye. As they walked, Kam was feeling a bit sad, she knew she had to leave this world, but she wanted to see what more there was, if there was a lot more to seeof Whiterona. But she just composed herself, and walked with Skyron to the exact spot where she first meet her.


Soon enough, Skyron stopped, and turned to Kam.


Skyron: "We are here, I know I know, you are going to say I am pretty amazing knowing where I found you when we first met."


Kam: "Yeah, you got it in one, all these powers you have, it's like you could of taken on the devouring instead of me, you are that awesome."


Skyron smiled.


Skyron: "Thank you, but that isn't my task in this world, my task is to assist the human beings, the newcomers who come here, I help them them adapt to this world as quickly as possible."


Kam: "I like the unique powers you have, it's like something out of a video game."


Skyron: "A video game.........our kind do not know too much about that."


Kam: "Ah right, well there are many unique things in video games, like characters having different powers and so on."


Skyron: "Sounds amazing."


Kam: "Yes, but meeting someone like you with powers like that, it's the stuff of dreams, but this isn't a dream, it's real, it's been an honour to know you."


Skyron kept smiling.


Skyron: "That is very nice of you, thank you Kam. It is time for you to leave us, please lay down just as you were when you first entered Whiterona."


Kam: "Ok."


Kam layed on the floor, like she was laying in a bed.


Skyron: "Close your eyes, and just focus, use the mind to return home with the power you have now, it will always stay with you."


Kam closed her eyes, and started to focus.


----------IN THE MIND OF KAM--------------


I......would like to go home now please, but it's been quite a ride. I'm gonna miss this place, I'll miss Skyron, the one person who met up with me when I first entered Whiterona. I saw the castle, went in the castle, I met The King, and his people, I met Marb, cannot forget THAT dude. I discovered that I have a power within me, a power that changed me into one of their own kind. It was the key, I had to save this place no matter how impossible it was at the start, that black hole, they called it the devouring. They named it, and I conquered it, with my mind when I used that big paint brush, with white paint on the end of it. I saved Skyron, I did everything I could to be remembered here, and they are all proud of me. I'll miss you all, but I have to go home, back to my world, please, home.......my bedroom...


-----------------------------

Kam opened her eyes, she was back in her bedroom, and back in her bed. The covers were over her, just as they were when she pulled them over her when she went to bed originally. She got up, and turned the lamp on. She looked in the mirror that was on the wall in the room. There she was, back in her world, the brown long hair, her eyes looked a bit heavy. She felt tired now, but suddenly something appeared from behind her in the mirror.


She spun round quickly in shock.


Kam: "WHAT THE HELL, SKYRON!!!!!!!!!"


It was her, she was standing there with a smile on her face, and tears pouring out of her white triangle eye. She held out her arms.


Skyron: "We forgot to hug before you departed, sorry about the tears......I got emotional when I forgot. I had to come here."


Kam: "Wow, I didn't think it was possible that you could!"


Kam quickly hugged Skyron, and they both started to cry a bit.


Kam: "I....thought this was it, but I'm glad you are here, I'll miss you, I'll miss all of you!"


Skyron: ".................I'll miss you too, but I know. I read your mind, I fully apperciate this moment with you, the hug is nice."


Kam and Skyron didn't want to let go of each other but eventually they did.


Skyron waved at Kam.


Skyron: "Goodbye Kam, and thank you for everything you did, it is time for me to leave, back to my world....."


She started to fade slowly.


Kam: "You are most welcome, I.......miss you already!"


Skyron: "Just remember you have the memories, and don't forget..............."


Skyron then was gone.


Kam: "Don't forget, don't forget what????"


Kam was crying a bit.


"US."


Kam sank to her knees, she felt really connected to her time with Skyron in Whiterona, she didn't want her to go. Kam composed herself, and stood up, and looked in the mirror again. She closed her eyes, and took a deep breath, and signed. She then opened her eyes, and turned the lamp off. She got into bed, and pulled the covers over her. Suddenly she remembered the power she had, she thought maybe she could bring Skyron back here
with the mind.


--------IN THE MIND OF KAM----------


Skyron, please come back here, please.


------------------------


Kam opened her eyes, she pulled the covers away, and looked around. She wasn't there.


Kam: "Hmmmmmmmm?"


Kam tried again, and focused even harder.


------IN THE MIND OF KAM--------


Skyron, please PLEASE come back here, please!


------------------------------------


Kam again opened her eyes, but Skyron wasn't there.


Kam: "Hmmmm, maybe the power I hold has stopped working?"


Kam didn't really mind too much that it didn't work, she tried. She layed in bed again, and closed her eyes, and had a deep loving thought.


----------IN THE MIND OF KAM-----------------


It would of been nice to bring her back here, but then again she came to me when I least expected it, and I'll cherish that moment for the rest of my life. I'll never forget you Skyron, nor anyone else from Whiterona.


There was a new world upon me at this point in my life, a world that is very much real, and not a dream. Maybe soon, or later somebody else from my world will be chosen to enter Whiterona, and proceed with the task that lays before them. No matter how big, no matter how dangerous, they will give their all in the end, just like I, and every other human has done. Be brave, you can do it, believe in yourself...........

Kam then fell asleep, and started to dream. Suddenly Skyron appeared beside her bed. She looked at her, and smiled. She then waved, and then slowly faded away.
